I really enjoy going for rides on my bike. It could be a trip that covers many miles over a span of many days or just a few hours to visit family and friends. I ride by myself at times but the most enjoyment comes with sharing the bike ride with my wife. I guess a big part of the experience is being able to share. We talk about all of the places we’ve been through the years. Sharing the historic locations, the not so historic but interesting locations and the phenomenal people we’ve encountered along the way.
We’ve rode from Milwaukee (the home of Harley Davidson) to Green Bay (the home of the Packers) then back to Milwaukee, to sit with a group of locals in the warm spring air as they talk about Milwaukee life in the winter.
We’ve sat still on our bike in Yellowstone as a herd of Bison walked beside us at arms reach.
We rode the Badlands of North Dakota, admiring the unbelievable strength and courage of the early pioneers. The rugged landscape and harsh conditions gave us a grim reality as to what it might have been like for those families in search of a better life.
We brought our schoolbooks to life by walking through the stone blocks at the base of Mount Rushmore, staring at the faces above us. We also had the unique opportunity of visiting Little Big Horn in Montana where we stood next to the markers of General Custer and all of his men with their names and military rank. We also visited the memorial of the Sioux who lost their lives in that historic battle.
There have been so many experiences on the road with so many people I sometimes have a hard time remembering it all.
Between all of the photos we’ve taken, all the notes I’ve written and all of the stories we share till this day, many friends we made along the way back then, are simply memories.
I think our next trip will probably also include making some facebook and twitter friends along the way.
